Gottlieb's book Funny, It Doesn't Sound Jewish is being used as a text reference in universities in the U.S. and England. It also is the basis for a 2007-08 two-semester course in a teleconference learning program for seniors: University Without Walls, sponsored by Dorot, a social service organization. The San Francisco Public Library also listed it as recommended reading for its website. As part of the Bernstein: The Best of All Possible Worlds Festival, Gottlieb is preparing Leonard Bernstein: A Jewish Legacy, a concert of little-known songs, choral, and piano works alongside more celebrated pieces.
