The English Lesson. Gottlieb's charming setting (in French) of Shakespeare's scene (from "Henry V") where the French princess Katharine is tutored in English by her Lady in Waiting was the compositional highlight of the evening. Gently lyrical and perfectly proportioned to its text, it proced gratifying and well balanced with only piano accompaniment. Paul Turok, Concert Reviews, 03/08/2004.

...thoroughly tuneful and charming. This composer, known for his many art songs, faced the challenge of setting Shakespeare's Act II, Scene IV of Henry V to continuous music which would convey the Bard's humanity and wit. Barry L. Cohen, New Music Connoisseur, Spring/Summer 2004.

The Silent Flickers, for piano four-hands. "a jamboree of light-hearted fun ... entertaining choreography ... a real feel-good fest"
Gershwin medley: "a spiffy adaptation for piano duet of some old favorites." -- New York Concert Review, Summer 2001.

yes is a pleasant country (song cycle): "...surpassingly weird-but- charming poetry... Playful...sung by a knowing [Peter Joshua] Burroughs, who clearly reveled in the composer's irreverent treatment of this most underrated of American poets." T.L. Potnick, The Washington Times, 26/10/02.

"Burroughs sang six songs from the Gottlieb cycle, which he will sing complete next month in its Washington premiere. His sensitive handling of the lyrically imaginative words and music make that event an occasion to look forward to." Joseph McClellan, The Washington Post, 29/10/02.

"rapturous moments...playful, cryptic and witty...the music often soars," New Music Connoisseur, Summer 2001.

The Yiddisha Professor, Early Songs of Irving Berlin : "the audience was transfixed by Mr. Gottlieb's entertaining lecture." Forward, July 27, 2001.
